Jen Brister’s interest in the stage came early, and whilst she was studying drama at Middlesex University, she took a course in stand-up comedy. Her first gig was towards the end of her final year at University.
Since then, her career has gone strength to strength, and she has performed across the UK and internationally, appearing at the Melbourne Comedy Festival and Adelaide Festival in Australia. She has also performed at Edinburgh Fringe Festival and at London’s Comedy Store.
In 2019 she released her first book, The Other Mother: A Wickedly Honest Parenting Tale For Every Kind of Family, which looks at her life being a mum to twin boys, from IVF to sleep training manuals, she has “the perfect vantage point for us to laugh and cry alongside her.”
She is a regular guest on podcasts such as The Guilty Feminist, Drunk Women Solving Crime, and Global Pillage, and has even hosted her own podcast with comedian Maureen Younger, Brister and Younger.
In 2018, Jen gave a TED talk at Brighton TEDx titled, “Changing the way we bring up our boys”, where she addressed the cultural and gender norms taught to children. The talk has since been viewed over 100,000 times on YouTube.
She also gives keynote talks on topics including diversity, representation, politics, social awareness, parenting, the power of comedy, embracing identity, creative storytelling, resilience, and LGBTQ+ advocacy.
