Chris McCausland has spent the past two decades establishing himself as one of the UK’s most popular stand-up comedians, becoming a familiar face across British TV.
A firm favourite on flagship comedy shows, he has appeared on programmes such as Have I Got News For You, QI, Would I Lie To You, The Last Leg, and 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown. He has also made three appearances on Live at the Apollo, including taking on hosting duties in the same year he bade his debut at the Royal Variety Performance.
In 2024, Chris became the first blind person to appear on Strictly Come Dancing; initially calling themselves the “Winning Isn’t Everything” team, Chris won the show alongside professional dancer Dianne Buswell. The duo now host a podcast together titled Winning Isn’t Everything.
Whilst born sighted, Chris has lost his sight gradually due to the genetic condition Retinitis Pigmentosa and he is now completely blind.

Chris McCausland is the first-ever blind professional comedian. He has performed across the globe, from Europe to the Middle East and India, leaving his audiences in stitches no matter the occasion.
Undeterred by his failing eyesight, Chris used it as a base for his jokes in his early years of comedy, making his debut in 2003 and going on to win the Jongleurs J20 Last Laugh competition with helped launch his career.
To date, Chris has taken seven stand-up shows to the prestigious Edinburgh Fringe Festival, each of them playing to sell-out audiences, year after year. He has also performed at the Comedy Store in London and The Apollo. Chris is a familiar face on the road, with his previous tour ‘Speak Blinder’ lasting for over 140 dates – all of which sold out. It culminated in a final performance at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire which was filmed for broadcast on Channel 4 and Netflix. More impressively, his 2025/26 tour ‘Yonks’ has sold an unbelievable 250,000 tickets to date.

As a famous face in the industry, Chris is a popular choice for television shows, and he has appeared on everything including 8 Out of 10 Cats, Live at the Apollo, Have I Got News For You, Would I Lie to You, The Jonathan Ross Show, Blankety Blank, The Graham Norton Show, Pointless Celebrities, Celebrity Mastermind, Scared of the Dark, and The Chase. As well as featuring as a guest, Chris has fronted his own programmes, such as the Channel 4 travel series Wonders of the World I Can’t See, which saw him visit Athens with Harry Hill, Rome with Tom Allen, Jordan with Guz Kahn, and Niagara Falls with Liza Tarbuck.
In 2024, Chris was announced as a contestant on the 22nd series of Strictly Come Dancing. As the first blind contestant, Chris and his dance partner Dianne believed they wouldn’t get far in the competition and were adamant it was about the taking part and not the winning. But they captured the nation’s heart, with the duo declared the winners that December. In May 2025, the couple’s waltz – which featured a section where Chris walked unaided and unsighted – won the BAFTA for the most Memorable Moment.
He is also an actor, having appeared in the kid’s series Me Too, and other programmes including Moving On, EastEnders, Not Going Out, Krapopolis, and Bad Tidings.
He released his autobiography Keep Laughing in 2025; a remarkable story of a 25-year journey through sight loss to blindness, and his highs, lows, and hilarious anecdotes along the way. Of the book, Richard Osman said, “The thing about Chris is that he’s funnier than everybody else.”
Chris can often be heard on the radio, and has hosted You Heard It Here First, a comedy panel show for Radio 4 where guests are asked to live in an audio world only, with guests including Hugh Dennis, Andy Parsons, Sue Pollard, Mel Giedroyc, Ben Shepherd, and Sara Pascoe. He has also appeared on Great Lives Kurt Cobain, Museum of Curiosity, and The Ultimate Choice.
