Tommy Tiernan | Stand-Up Comedian

Hailed by Billy Connolly as one of his three favourite comedians in the world, Tommy Tiernan has been performing stand-up comedy for nearly three decades. Just two years into his stand-up career, his debut Edinburgh Fringe Festival show was awarded the Perrier Award for his outstanding contribution to comedy, as well as the British Comedy Award for best stand up.

His legendary record-breaking stand-up ticket sales extend across the world. He is second only to U2 when it comes to live ticket sales in Ireland. His Bovinity Tour played to over 12,000 people at three sold-out shows at the Marquee Cork, something no other artist has ever managed to do. His comedy has taken him from Moscow in Russia and Moose Jaw in Canada, Australia and New Zealand, as well as every corner of Ireland’s 32 counties.

In 2009, he set the Guinness World Record for the longest stand-up comedy show by an individual at a stagging 36 hours and 15 minutes.

He has made numerous appearances on television, including on David Letterman’s The Late Show, and on Comedy Central, as well as Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, The Lee Mack Show, and QI.

Tommy’s film, television, and theatre career spans over 25 years, appearing in movies such as Dark Lies the Island, Hold Back the Night, and the Oscar nominated Wolf Walkers; TV shows Father Ted, Small Potatoes, Conversations With Friends, and most famously Derry Girls; and in stage productions of ‘Sive’ and ‘The Cave’.

Tommy has never wanted to play it safe when it comes to his career, so when it came to his chat show, he threw the rule book out the window. This book brings together 21 interviews from his chat show, from the profound, profane, funny, and moving.

Tommy is the host of The Tommy Tiernan Show on RTÉ 1, a chat show that welcomes mystery guests and interviews them without any preparation or knowledge of who will be joining him until they meet in the studio.

He co-hosts the award-winning and popular Tommy, Hector and Laurita podcast, which boasts over 25 million downloads heard in 175 countries, and sees Tommy, his school friend Hector Ó hEochagáin, and Laurita Blewitt as they chat around a table in the West of Ireland. He is also the host of Tommy Tiernan Private Investigations which sees him alone “in a shed with a microphone, a coffee, and a mouthful of ideas”.
